Daniel Jo Ho Bae is a 17 year old whose parents moved to America from South Korea to give their children, Charlie and Daniel, a better life. His mean brother Charlie was recently kicked out of Harvard, so all the pressure is on him now. His parents expect him to go to Yale and become a doctor, but he secretly wants to be a poet. On his way to get a haircut before his interview with Yale, his train conductor stops the train and tells them about his testimony. The train conductor urges the passengers on the train to find signs from God. Meanwhile, Natasha Kingsley's world is a mess. Natasha’s family was in America on a visa and they had overstayed it. Then her father got a DUI and accidentally told the cops about how they were staying in the US illegally while he was drunk. Natasha and her family were going to be deported in 12 hours back to Jamaica. Natasha goes to Customs and Immigration Services to try and do anything she can to stay in America. Irene, a lonely security guard goes through all of Natasha’s things before her appointment. She holds her back and Natasha misses her appointment. However, she still get’s an immigration lawyers number, Jeremy Fitzgerald, who she will meet later. After Natasha misses her appointment she has some free time and decides to go into a record store. At the same time Daniel get’s off the train and sees Natasha. She’s wearing a jacket that says “God from the machine” on the back and he takes it as a sign like the train conductor said. He follows her into the store and on the way out, stops her from getting hit by a car. Soon enough they are drinking coffee together at a nearby cafe. They spend the next few hours together eating, talking, singing karaoke, meeting Daniel's family, etc, until Natasha warns Daniel not to fall in love with her. Daniel claims that they are meant to be together and he asks why not. She says that she is getting deported in a few hours and they get into a big fight. They both regret the things they said and because they never got each other’s numbers or full names, it takes a lot of time finding each other again to say their finally goodbyes. When they do find each other again, Daniel will have his interview with Yale and Natasha will find out if she’s really being deported from Jeremy Fitzgerald. Will they go their own way, or will they live happily ever after? Find out in The Sun is Also a Star
